We are proud to announce that we have added another stunning hide to our HBN photo hide offerings. The municipality of Hof van Twente is richly endowed with beautiful nature areas, and not far from the Borkeld nature reserve lies “the Elsenerveld”. It is an environment where nature and agriculture coexist, which is exactly what we aim for to create variety in our photo hides.
We built this photo hide in collaboration with Staatsbosbeheer in a beautiful, wild, and open forest area. It features a mix of old poplars and lush undergrowth with an abundance of shrubs that provide a food source for birds.
In the early years, we had a small photo hide under the name HBN-2, and now we can finally continue with this name to complete the count. 2xl stands for the new model photo hide, which we ultimately want to make a standard. Visitors of HBN-1xl will recognize the hide itself, and visitors of HBN-8 will recognize the beautiful water table. The best of both combined.”
In addition to the common woodland birds, we expect species such as tree pipits, hawfinches, sparrowhawks, buzzards, green woodpeckers, black woodpeckers, yellowhammers, etc. here. At this hide, you can expect birds to be between 2 and 6 meters from your lens, but naturally also in the wider area around the hide.
The hide is equipped with our Hi-tec mirror glass, giving you a much better chance of capturing more and shyer birds in front of your lens.
By renting this beautiful photo hide, you not only enjoy a great day but also support the work of Staatsbosbeheer protecting this area.
The rental of this photo hide is divided into two periods.
Season 1:

With the HBN hides, you go to the hide on your own and can decide when to start. It is always recommended to start early. You can use the hide until a maximum of 1 hour before sunset, although we prefer if you finish a bit earlier as our volunteers need to visit the hide.
After booking (see top of this page), you will receive a confirmation with instructions on how to download the guidelines. If you do not receive a confirmation, please check your spam filter or contact us. Sometimes people make a typo mistake in the email address.
Terms and Conditions
The rental price of the hide is per day and for the entire hide, regardless of the number of photographers. You can use it with up to three photographers. We do not work with half-day rentals, so you have this hide at your disposal for the entire day. We will not place people together in the hide from our side. You book with the people you want to go with.
Zanglijster badderend
We interact with photographers through two Facebook groups. The main group is the ‘HBN Fotohutten‘ group where photographers share their results and experiences.
The second group is ‘HBN Spots‘ where we announce available hides, share observations per photo hide, and offer photographers the opportunity to find photo buddies within the HBN photo hides.
Heater:
In the winter months, there is a heater in this hide which you can use for €10. This amount was adjusted in 2022 due to the extremely high gas prices.
HBN Hide Manager:
HBN-4 is managed by Volunteers Robert Pluimers and Brenda Velthuis.
Slider System
In HBN-2xl, you can also use the HBN slider system with the beautiful Sirui PH-30 gimbal heads, thanks to a partnership with TSE-imaging.
As always, there are also HBN beanbags available; you place these on the boxes that are in the hide.

Overnight Stay:
In the information you receive from me, you will also find details for possible overnight stays in the area. You want to start as early as possible. There are, of course, many options, but it is often difficult to have an early breakfast and order a lunch package. Based on this, we recommend Hotel het Wapen van Delden.
