HBN Hide 7xl
UPDATE March 2026:
This photo hide has now been completely replaced by a new, comfortable hide. The text below has therefore been adjusted.
At the foot of the beautiful Lemelerberg near the village of Lemele, we have, in cooperation with Landschap Overijssel, a second photo hide. This photo hide, HBN-7xl, is located in a heathland area that is not accessible to the public; among juniper shrubs with a view of a beautiful stretch of heath. Around the hide there is a forest consisting mainly of Scots pine. A biotope where we expect largely the same species and numbers of birds as at the renowned HBN 3, which is located elsewhere in this area. At this hide you can expect birds at a distance of between 3 and 7 meters from your lens, but of course birds can also be photographed further away.

Changes in the area:
At the end of 2025, Landschap Overijssel, following other parts of the Lemelerberg, started converting areas of coniferous forest into heathland, as it once used to be. This means it has become a more open area where young heather and juniper will grow in the coming years. This also changes the nature reserve for the fauna. Because the hide had to close during this work period anyway, we took the opportunity to replace the now 11-year-old photo hide and pond. From the hide’s point of view, no work has taken place directly in front of it, so the trees and heath around the hide itself have remained the same. To clearly reflect this change in observations, we have adjusted the name to HBN-7xl, in line with our other hides of this model and comfort level.

Naturally, this new photo hide is also largely dug into the ground, allowing us to create a low shooting angle towards the pond in front of the hide. To keep excessive rainwater out, we have equipped the hide with a sturdy staircase.

We have created a nice large pond, offering more opportunities for photography. The hide is built according to the principle of my other HBN hides and is suitable for a maximum of three photographers. Due to its location and the possible species, we can confidently call this an exclusive hide. By renting this unique photo hide, you support the good work of Landschap Overijssel.

At this hide, which is built without one-way mirror glass, we expect—besides the more common birds—species such as yellowhammer, siskin, coal tit, common redstart, hawfinch, goldfinch, crested tit, tree pipit, linnet, and sparrowhawk, as well as photogenic squirrels. Everything naturally depends on the time of year and conditions. Throughout the year, you can usually expect birds in front of your lens all day long, but the recommendation remains to focus especially on the morning hours.
Rental:
The rental of this photo hide is divided into two periods.
Season 1:
April 1 – October 31
€95
Season 2:
November 1 – March 31
€75
This rental price is per day and for the entire hide, regardless of the number of photographers. A maximum of three photographers can use it. We do not work with half-day sessions, so you have the hide at your disposal for the entire day. We do not assign unrelated people to share the hide. You book with the people you choose to go with.
At the HBN hides, you travel to the hide independently and may decide yourself what time to start. Starting early is always recommended. You may use the hide until a maximum of one hour before sunset.
After booking (see top of this page), you will receive a confirmation including instructions on how to download the guidelines. If you do not receive a confirmation, please check your spam folder or get in touch. Sometimes people make a typo in their email address.
